Stress and Health – How does it Affect You?

STRESS and HEALTH

Stress and Health are directly related. When you have stress, your health is directly affected.

Stress: We’ve all felt it. Sometimes it can be a positive force, motivating you to perform well at a competition or your job. If you experience stress over a prolonged period, it could become chronic — unless you take action. Stress can affect your health, the inflammation in your body, and your well-being.

Life is Stressful.

Life is stressful. Jobs. Marriages. Dating. Lifestyles. Some of the most significant “life” stresses are marriages, buying a house, job changes, and divorce. What triggers your anxiety? Do you get angry?

32% of people can trigger anger health issues. Multiple studies have shown that sudden emotional stresses — like being stuck in traffic – things that trigger anger — can trigger heart attacks, arrhythmias, and even sudden death.

Chronic Stress Hurts your Health

When stress starts interfering with your ability to live a healthy life for an extended period, it becomes even more dangerous. It can disrupt your healthy stress hormones like cortisol. Sleep problems, depression, digestive issues, and weight gain are just some of the ways chronic stress can hurt your health.

What can you do to Reduce Stress?

Reducing your stress levels can not only make you feel better right now but may also protect your health long-term. Stress and health go hand in hand to affect your life.

  1. IDENTIFY Super Woman. You know just the woman. You know the one that is trying to do it all. Work, family, friends, exercise – it’s a juggling act with never-ending priorities.
  2. TAKE Time for YOU. This sounds like a no-brainer, but we don’t take time for us. We are so busy going and doing that we forget about us. We compare taking time for you to being on an airplane and having the oxygen masks come out. If you don’t breathe the oxygen first, you will not be able to help someone else get their mask on. Stress and health go together, so take time for you.
  3. RELAX. Take a Bath. Use Aromatherapy. When you take time for you, use the “me” time for relaxing activities like a bath. Use aromatherapy around your house and your office. You would be surprised by the way just a few drops in a diffuser or on a tissue can change your outlook on life.
  4. GET HELP Yoga. Walk. Read. Talk. Relax. Breathe. If you are having a hard time with stress and it has created depression, get help. Some of the activities that can help include yoga, walking, talking, and breathing. Yes, deep breaths allow you to put more oxygen deep into your body. Being overwhelmed by your life is no fun. Don’t let the effects of cortisol and hormones harm your health.
