How to Choose the Right Lipstick for your Skin Tone
It is very important to choose the right lipstick for your skin tone. Even at spas and cosmetics counters, if you don’t understand the skin’s undertones, you will not find the right shade. Some people think that they can not wear a certain color, but that’s not true. You can wear any color you would like, it just has to have the right shade of lipstick for your skin tone.
Every skin tone has either a blue or yellow undertone, also known as cool undertones and warm undertones. To determine which you are, it’s best to turn your arm over and look at your wrist. Is the vein on your wrist, blue or is it green?
- If the vein on your wrist is really blue, you have skin that has blue undertones, or cool undertones.
- If the vein on your wrist is really green, you have skin that has yellow undertones, or warm undertones.
Next, you have to look at the colors that you wish to shop for. You can have two red colors, but 1 red can have a blue undertone, and the other can have a yellow undertone. Obviously, you want to choose the right lipstick for your skin tone. Why? Because it complements your skin’s undertone, and therefore, it will be the right lipstick for you!
How to test your skin tone?
To test this, find a blue-red lipstick and a yellow-red lipstick. Apply both to your hand or wrist. Which one looks better? Which one looks terrible? It should be very clear to you which one looks better, but if you’re not sure, ask one of our spa consultants, a makeup artist, or a friend. Also, if you are shopping for lipsticks or any color cosmetic and you are not sure it looks great on you, it may be the wrong undertone lipstick shade for you.
Another trick to determine your skin’s undertone is to check which jewelry tone looks better on you. Do you wear yellow gold or white gold? If yellow gold looks better on you, you have a warm or yellow undertone. If you look better in white gold, you have a cool undertone or blue undertone.
The tone of the skin determines not only the right lipstick color for you, but any color cosmetics, including eye shadows, blushes, bronzers, eyebrow pencils, and all color cosmetics, as well as the right shade of foundation for you. #bellabeauty
