How do I know I'm using the right exfoliator for my skin type?⁣

This part can be tricky. Should you use a chemical exfoliator or a physical one? How many times should you exfoliate? ⁣
⁣
We get it, exfoliation can be overwhelming. But we're here to make it simpler! Let's start with the basics:⁣
⁣
1) Chemical vs Physical: Chemical can be a super intimidating word, but don't let it fool you. Chemical doesn't necessarily equal bad. Chemical exfoliators contain AHAs (which deeply exfoliate the pores) and BHAs (which exfoliate the outer layer of the skin. ⁣
⁣
We personally prefer chemical exfoliation. It's ideal for those with mature skin, dry skin, and sensitive skin. However, if you do prefer a scrub, just make sure that the scrub's granules aren't too rough on the skin! The point is to polish the skin, not damage the skin!⁣
⁣
2) How often should you actually exfoliate? This really depends on your skin type. Those with very oily skin can exfoliate three times a week, or every other day, depending on the product being used, while those with sensitive or dry skin should only stick to exfoliating once a week. If your skin is flaky and peeling, you're exfoliating too much!⁣

Well, unless you enjoy causing long-term damage to your skin by causing micro tears in the skin. ⁣
⁣
You see, scrubs shouldn't be too abrasive, and they should be easier to dissolve. Otherwise, they can physically damage the skin! ⁣
⁣
If you prefer using scrubs, over chemical exfoliants, we recommend using the Skin Script Raspberry Refining Scrub (which is 10% off this week) or the Biodroga Microdermabrasion peel.

What is the difference between exfoliating at home

What is the difference between exfoliating at home vs at the spa?⁣

Exfoliation at home serves the purpose of giving your skin a weekly maintenance. At home exfoliation will remove the layer of dead skin cells, keeping your skin clean, healthy, and of course glowing. ⁣
⁣
You can exfoliate at home with chemical (AHAs, BHAs) or physical (scrubs) exfoliators. It depends on your skin type and skin concerns. ⁣
⁣
Exfoliation at the spa on the other hand serves a different purpose. For example, at the spa you can have stronger peels, since you're under the supervision of a licensed professional, which isn't advised to use at home, because you can actually burn your skin without proper expertise. ⁣
⁣
Exfoliation at the spa includes several different facials that can have different benefits, other than just to remove dead skin. For example, a HydraFacial not only exfoliates, it extracts impurities and adds hydration to the skin, while microdermabrasion can help with hyperpigmentation, or derma-planing removes peach fuzz. ⁣
⁣
The best course of action is sitting down with an esthetician you trust and discuss the best at home treatment, and spa treatment for your specific skin type or concern. ⁣
