Where were you born?

I was born in Detroit, Michigan.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

I always loved fashion, art, music and history. I wanted to be a fashion designer and a model. I’ve done some modeling.

How did you decide on a career as a nail tech?

I really love the spa industry because everything I love is meshed into one. Beauty, fashion, art and imagination is also combined into the spa world. Also, I really enjoyed meeting all walks of life.

The reason I decided to become a nail tech is because I looked at it as art. I could have written a book. I may still. I have many stories to tell. Mostly I really enjoy meeting all walks of life. And I really enjoy making people beautiful and happy.

What was your first memorable treatment or work as a nail tech?

That’s very hard to answer because I have so many after doing this for 20 some years. I still have relationships with a lot of people I met from the start of my career. I’ve worked on mayors, judges, councilmen, and celebrities. Through many charity events, magazine work, runway, models, Radio City Rockettes, Hurricane Katrina, 911 Attack, battered women, cancer charities….almost too many to mention. My nail tech career has opened up a whole new world for me.

What are the things about working in the beauty and spa industry that you love?

I like to do manicures, pedicures, shellac, acrylics, axxium opi gels.

Do you have a favorite treatment? If so, what is it?

It’s a toss up for my favorite treatment. I love CND Shellac and Axxium OPI Gels.

Have you had any famous celebrity clients? If so, can you say who and what treatment?

I’ve had some celebrity clients that I’ve worked on, like Selma Blair. I did a manicure on her as her family used to come into the salon in Birmingham, MI. Selma grew up there.

As a on movie set nail tech, I also worked on Erin Cummings. She was one of the actors on the Detroit 187 show. I did CND Shellac on her and she became my client for a few months.

Very exciting was working on Rihanna‘s nails. She was filming the video Monster with Eminem. I was working on the set for 3 days in Detroit. For her, I applied and maintained acrylic nails. I must say, “It was an awesome experience”.

I worked on Eva Mendes when she was in Detroit filming the movie Lost River for 3 months. I was her personal nail tech for specialty manicures and pedicures. Her role in the movie was “Cat”, so she wanted me to match her character. I did pointy cat claws with tips and acrylics, while using her favorite Essie color, “mucho dinero”. I loved working with Eva so much, as we actually have a lot in common. It was an amazing experience.

The VP and publisher of Allure Magazine, Agnes Chapski was another celebrity client. I did a manicure on her and some of her staff members.

Lastly, my work has appeared in Styleline Detroit magazine with cover shots showcasing my work on various models.

What inspires you?

There are many things that inspire me. They include first and foremost, my husband and family history (my ancestry). Additionally, couture fashion, traveling to see the world, ancient history, cooking, architecture, different cultures, movies (especially old ones), music and interior design.
